FIN Victoria has partnered with the Victorian Advocacy League for Individuals with Disability (VALID) to secure funding for a targeted advocacy project. The Steps 2 Speaking Up Project will deliver individual advocacy, peer groups, statewide forums and a training package aimed at supporting parents with intellectual disability who are dealing with the child protection system.

Our special guest, Professor Maurice Feldman, is an expert in parenting by persons with learning difficulties, having designed and scientifically validated the Step-by-Step Parenting Program. Professor Feldman will provide an overview of the international research on parents with learning disability and on parenting assessment.
Advocate Kate Fitt will lead an interactive workshop exploring communication, trauma and unconscious bias.
Attendees will also hear the experiences of families trying to navigate the child protection and parenting assessment system.
