FIN Victoria volunteers can help families prepare for meetings and court hearings. Where possible our volunteers will also attend meetings and hearings with the family. Volunteers also link families to other services and legal support.

Our volunteers provide much needed emotional support and encouragement to families dealing with the child protection system. Families often feel isolated, stigmatised and judged harshly if they express difficult emotions. We provide a safe space for family members to express their feelings and frustrations whilst also coaching them with emotional self-regulation strategies.

We are working to increase our capacity to provide face-to-face support by recruiting and training a network of volunteer advocates across Victoria.

At a broader level we ensure families are given opportunities to influence policy and service delivery as key stakeholders.
